Meet Your Host, April S. Cullom

About your host, Atlanta native April Cullom traded in her Southern roots to move to the Costa del Sol in Andalucía (Spain), and currently lives “bi-costal” between New York City and Málaga. She holds a WSET Advanced certificate (honors), is a Spanish Wine Scholar (highest honors) by Wine Scholar Guild, Certified Sherry Wine Specialist (honors), recognized Spain Specialist by TurEspaña (office of Tourism of Spain) and is the creator of award-winning Alma de Vino & Casa Abril wines.

Spain has been “home” to April since 1986 when she started to study at the University of Madrid during her junior year in college and returned to Madrid after graduating from Stetson University to live in Madrid for 5 years, working for E.F. Educational Tours and teaching at a private University.

After finishing her MS/MBA at the University of Miami, April started a career in international marketing in New York City. Her agency Global Bridges LLC has 20+ years’ experience specializing in Spanish food and wine marketing. She has educated and cultivated hundreds of contacts in the elite wine trade and press in both the U.S. and Spain, through years of US roadshows representing Spanish wine regions in the US and leading professional trips throughout Spain.

In 2003 she launched Casa Abril Cultural Tastings & Tours to promote Spanish wines and introduce American consumers to a place she likes to call “home”, Spain. Her extensive years of experience in educating and leading professional wine trade & media tours, combined with strong key relationships in Spain and Portugal with wineries lead her to create “5 Sentidos Tours”. The tailor-made food & wine journeys incorporate a touch of culture and history to lend context to the unique local delicacies enticing her clients to travel through their senses.
